The Women’s Research Engineers Network (WREN) is a community designed to support women in their engineering careers by creating a place for users to connect internationally, share ideas and have their voices heard. Launched just recently, we’re very proud to be involved in this initiative and looking forward to it gaining great momentum.
Women make up only 30% of the workforce in STEM based careers, and men vastly outnumber women majoring in most STEM fields at a University level. The gender gaps are particularly high in some of the fastest-growing and highest-paid jobs of the future, like computer science and engineering.
When WREN approached us, they were in the early stages of their journey and were looking to take their community online with the goal of reaching global users, Brazil in particular. It was important for us to understand the needs and content of their users so we jumped straight into user interviews, speaking with leading researchers in Australia and Brazil to truly comprehend the challenges researchers faced whilst searching for opportunities and finding growth in their careers.
